Guatemala, Panajachel and Antigua with Kathleen Conover
February 14-24, 2018
THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Painting from an early age, Kathleen was influenced by teachers and artists in the fertile environment of Southern California's prominent artists, museums and galleries as well as her international travels. She studied undergraduate fine arts at San Diego State University, finished her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Washington in Seattle and earned her Master of Arts degree from Northern Michigan University. Continued study with American master watercolor artists over the next decade enriched her depth, understanding, skill, and personal style of painting.
Kathleen Conover's current involvement in the growing international watercolor scene includes invitations to exhibit, judge, and demonstrate in China, Turkey, France, Belgium, Thailand and Greece. She has been honored as one of the 40 international master watercolorists invited to exhibit at the first watercolor-exclusive museum in Qingdao, China, the "Birthplace of Watercolor". Global travel continues to influence her award winning paintings and inspires her work toward her lifetime pursuit, "... to be a better painter".
Panajachel, on beautiful Lake Antigua, is a morning's drive from Guatemala City and a World away from the big city vibe. This is a small city of very friendly people as well as many ex-pat artists. We will take a ferry to the villages on the other side of the lake to paint, take photos and shop. You will see many little vehicles called Tuk-Tuks in each village that will take you everywhere for just 5 Quetzals (about 75 cents).
The city of Antigua has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The enchanting cobblestone streets and the Spanish Baroque architecture recall the beginnings of this city in the 16th century. It is surrounded by three volcanos. The city streets are aligned in an easy to follow grid with the Parque Central as the origin point, so you will have no trouble navigating the sights.
We have two wonderful hotels which will provide a large breakfast for you each morning. Posada de Don Rodrigo in Antigua and in Panajachel....... each have spacious rooms and lovely grounds.
Your payment includes tuition for 7 class days, lodging, all breakfasts and five dinners. Not included: transportation to Guatemala, insurance on person or baggage. Single room supplement $220.00
